Mira Vista Golf Course, previously named The Lowry AFB Golf Course, is a Public 18 hole golf course located in Aurora, Colorado.
The course first opened for play in 1972. The course was designed by Bob Baldock and later renovated by Pat Wyss. This course was previously a military course located on Lowry Air Force Base. Lowry functioned, first as an Army post, then an Air Force base, later as a technical training and military readiness facility until 1994. The United States Air Force Academy was dedicated at Lowry Air Force Base and was its Interim site. For a time after the war, Lowry was a second home to President Eisenhower who turned Lowry into his summer White House. With the base closure in 1994, the course became open to the public.
The course affords many beautiful views of the mountains. Several mature trees protect the greens and fairways. Some holes feature peninsula greens, and all the fairways vary in undulation. The finishing holes play uphill, and many greens can't be seen from the tee boxes. The signature hole is #13, a 389-yard, par 4, featuring a dogleg left fairway with a lake coming into play at the turn.
Par for the course is 72. From the back tees the course plays to 6,870 yards. From the forward tees the course measures 5,919 yards. The longest hole on the course is # 10, a par-5 that plays to 551 yards. The shortest hole on the course is # 5, a par-3 that plays to 166 yards from the back tees.
Watch out for # 3, a 543 yard par-5 challenge and the #1 handicap hole on the course. The easiest hole is # 11, a 189 yard par-3.
The course closed in 2007. It was replaced in 2009 with a new golf course, the Tom Doak designed Command Ground Golf Course.
